Young people from Wells, Stutsman, Sheridan, Eddy and Foster counties competed in the 4-H District Communication Arts Contest on June 2, 2021. The event was held at McClusky High School in McClusky. Communication Arts is the 4-H speech and demonstration competition that is held at the county, district and state levels. Participants are encouraged to use their own creativity and originality in preparing their public presentation. The Communication Arts program is open to any youth involved in extension youth programs and includes three age divisions. The Cloverbud division present, but do not compete. Cloverbuds are youth who are finishing or have completed kindergarten through second grade. The junior division (youth 8-12 years old), and the senior division (youth ages 13-18), compete to earn the right to represent their district at the state competition, which is held on July 25 at the North Dakota State Fair. Winners over the age of 13 are also provided a paid Extension Youth Conference Registration fee.
Participation gifts were given to all participants. Medallions were provided to champions (junior and senior). Rosettes were awards for honorable mentions. Cloverbuds earned participation ribbons.

The 4-H Communication Arts program has five primary objectives:
• To help participants develop communication skills that are useful throughout a lifetime.
• To provide participants an opportunity to practice these skills before a group.
• To provide participants an opportunity to gather and organize information, equipment and props for a public presentation.
• To develop participant's confidence in making public presentations.
• To evaluate and enhance communication skills.
