Legion season begins with a win

The New Rockford Legion Post #30 baseball team started off the summer season with a 4-2 win against Rolla-Rolette Post #235 in New Rockford on Monday, June 7.

Alex Harrison earned his first win of the season, pitching all seven innings, striking out 10 and walking only two. Isaac Herbl started the game for Rolla-Rolette and took the loss.

NR began the scoring in the first inning. Lead off hitter, Johnny Grann, started the inning with a single through the left side. Grann stole second, and was driven in by a single through the middle, off the bat of Harrison. Harrison earned another RBI in the third inning, when he drove in Caden Price with another single, after Price hit a triple over the right fielder's head.

Rolla-Rolette were able to cut the score in half in the fourth inning. Harrison walked Cy Luna, and Luna was able to score on a single by Xavier Mitchell, and a fielding error on the play. New Rockford was able to come back in the bottom of the fourth and tack on another run after a double by Luke Yri, a single by Connor Knatterud, and a bloop single by Grann. R-R scored their final run in the sixth on a single by Andre Elick, and a triple by Mitchell. Knatterud was able to add on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth after he singled, stole second base, tagged up to third on a fly ball out by Grann, and came home on a wild pitch.

There were some tense moments in the bottom of the seventh. Harrison struck out the first two batters, but then loaded the bases on a single by Brady Schock, a single by Jordan Stone, and a walk to A. Elick. The Black Sox were able to get out of the jam, retiring the last batter on a line out to right field.

The next home Legion game is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. against Nelson County.
