Rival Redbirds hand Black Sox first loss

New Rockford Post #30 traveled to Carrington on June 21 to play an afternoon game. The Black Sox built an early lead, but blew it in the bottom of the seventh. Carrington won the game 12-11 in eight innings.

NR-S was able to plate their first run in the top of the first, due to an error from the Carrington defense. Carrington was able to equal the Sox with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. The Sox broke through in the second with six runs. The big blow in the innings was a bases-clearing double by Hunter Jacobson. NR-S also scored four more in the third on a series of singles. All of these runs were off of Carrington starting pitcher Lucas Hendrickson.

Carrington was able to right the ship starting in the fifth inning, when they brought in Austin Trelstad to pitch. The Redbirds kept chipping away at the Sox lead. Ethan Buskness' home run to left field, in the bottom of the sixth, gave the Redbirds the belief that they could win the game. The Sox were also forced to take starter Nick Berglund out after this home run due to pitch count limits.

The bottom of the seventh was a disaster for the Sox defense with two errors and many missed plays that led to Carrington being able to score four runs and tie the game. NR-S was not able to score in the eighth and Carrington won the game on a single, down the third base line, off the bat of Hudson Schmitz, scoring Noah Paulson from third base.
