Last inning heroics for Babe Ruth

The weather didn’t want to cooperate when NR-S traveled to Rugby on Friday, June 25 for a two-game set that included the resumption of the rained-out game from June 8. It rained throughout, and only the resumed game was completed. It was decided at the onset that the game would count for two decisions in the district standings.

The game started at the top of the second inning with Rugby ahead 2-0 and NR-S as the home team, because it was the resumption of the game that started in New Rockford. Rugby promptly added onto their lead with three more runs in the second and another run in the third to go ahead 6-0. The Sox finally got their bats going in the bottom of the third scoring three runs. Rugby ran the score to 8-3, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

NR-S came roaring back in the bottom of the seventh and scored six runs to win the game. Easton Benz started off with a walk. Luke Yri singled. Benz and Yri scored on a double by Connor Knatterud. Knatterud scored on a wild pitch. Easton Simon singled. With two outs, DJ Mudgett reached first base on an error and Keaton Cudworth walked to load the bases. Dashyl Bichler was the hero when he hit a ground ball on his last strike that scored Simon, Mudgett and Cudworth. Sox won 9-8.
