B & B Racers, LLC of Minot brought excitement downtown Saturday with their portable go-kart track. "We went nonstop," said Chris Brown, co-owner of B & B Racers, LLC. "This was the busiest small town celebration we've ever done." Residents and visitors were all smiles, even as they waited in line. Scattered showers that passed quickly overhead gave attendees a reprieve from the heat. The go-karts were sponsored by the New Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce, New Rockford Eagles Club and New Rockford Lions Club, which made it possible for everyone to ride free. "This is the coolest thing that's ever come to New Rockford," one resident said as he watched.

The New Rockford Fire Department had extra equipment and firefighters on hand for the annual fireworks display at dusk on July 4. The spectacular show in Central Park, overlooking the James River, lasted nearly 30 minutes. The New Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce spent $4,000 on the display this year, and donations are gratefully accepted throughout the year. The June Stars and Jars fund drive brought in $2,685, a record high since it was introduced in 2011. The staff at Miller's Fresh Foods, where "stars" are available for purchase, raised nearly $2,000 alone. Work is already underway to raise funds for the 2022 display, with Monday Night Football raffle tickets going on sale the first of August. Watch for an exciting new opportunity to help "light up the sky" coming in 2022!
