Black Sox split with Nelson County

On July 5, New Rockford Post #30 traveled to Tolna and split the two games played against district opponent Nelson County. The Sox won the first game that counted toward the district standings, 12-2 in five innings. They lost the second five-inning game 6-3.

In the first game, the Sox were hitting it all over the ballpark accumulating 14 hits in the game. Every hitter in the lineup had a hit for the Sox. Koven Walford, Johnny Grann, Luke Yri, Nick Berlund, and Alex Harrison all hit doubles, and Berglund hit a triple in the first inning.

NR-S scored 12 runs in five innings and were able to hang on for a 10-run rule win despite allowing two runs to score in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Harrison started at pitcher and pitched three scoreless innings. Duda pitched the last two innings. Cole Hendrickson pitched all five innings for the Owls in a losing effort.

In the second game, the Sox scored two runs in the first inning. Haydon Meier and Koby Duda scored on a two-run double by Johnny Grann. NR-S was not able to hold the lead. The Owls scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings to build a 6-2 lead. The Sox tried to make a comeback by scoring in the fifth, but they fell short.

Johnny Grann started at pitcher and pitched two innings. Koven Walford pitched the final three innings and took the loss. Trae Lillihaugen pitched five strong innings for the Owls to earn the win.
