Oberon Oracles: July 19, 2021

I have not submitted Oberon news for three weeks, as we were visiting friends and relatives in San Diego and Escondido. We attended our great-granddaughter, Jenna Madson’s graduation open house at her home in Escondido, and celebrated Father's Day at our friend's home in Point Loma. We were also the guests of Roger and Laurie Benham in Point Loma, while we were in California. Carrie Prince, Cathy Caulfield and Melodie Madson, and Dave and I, flew to San Diego on June 15. Carrie and Melodie returned to North Dakota on June 29 as scheduled, and Cathy stayed with us to return home on July 4.

On June 23, Dave was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he spent the next 10 days recovering from an abscess in his throat. He is doing well now.

California has beautiful weather, but the traffic is crazy, gas was $4.65 a gallon, there are no public restrooms because of the homeless people, who are everywhere, and almost every store charges 10 cents for a bag to put your purchases in.

News from June 20: Joel and Debbie Hjelseth and Kasper of Chattanooga, Tenn. visited the Buehler family last week and weekend.

Nadley, Beau and Hunter Buehler attended the funeral service for Lois Hjelseth Wescom on Tuesday morning.

Michael and Breana Pacheco, Waylon, Mavis, and friend Meryl, visited Todd and Nadley over the weekend.

Beau, Bria, Brittin and Brooks Buehler joined the Pacheco’s on Father’s Day for a visit at the Todd and Nadley Buehler farm. Hunter and Maverick later came over to wish Todd a Happy Father’s Day.

Elisa Wentz and Annley made a facetime call on Sunday to wish Papa Todd a happy Father’s Day.

Dave Kenner visited Todd last week.

Also from June 20: Johnny Grann was in Mayville all week, practicing for the Shrine Bowl All-Star football game. The game was held Saturday evening in Fargo. John, Donna, Ben, Brittany, Dutton and Lacey Grann all attended the game to cheer on the nine-man east team.

Ben, Brittany and Dutton spent Sunday in Bathgate visiting Brittany’s dad, Ted, and her grandfather, Nick.

News for July 11: Craig and Sandy Poulsen, and Charlotte and Randy Simon, visited Todd and Nadley Buehler last week.

Nadley spent a few days in Rochester, Minn. helping Elisa Wentz and visiting Annley.

Breana Pacheco arrived in Rochester on Friday afternoon and will stay with Elisa through Wednesday.

Monday, Lester and Roger Roberts, Delores Stack, Marlene Miller, Jean Olson and June Sabbe along with many relatives, celebrated Roger’s 95th birthday, and Delores’ 93rd birthday. Belated birthday greetings to Roger and Delores.

Lester attended July 4 festivities in Sheyenne. He enjoyed the parade and the meal at Ostby Hall and visiting with friends.

Sunday, Lester took in the blue grass band Cotton Wood, from Washburn, and Woodpicks from Thief River Falls, Minn. Exactly ten years ago, Lester enjoyed these same bands when they performed at Stump Lake.

Dave and Linda Madson, and Mr. Syl Brown and Amy Jacobson, were coffee guests at Melodie’s home on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday July 3, Jake, Amanda, Fallyn, Piper and Croix Hegland took in the parade in New Rockford. The family enjoyed watching the parade outside of the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd with Jake’s grandma, Emily Stadheim, Patty and Jarvis Hegland, and Jill Zietz and family.

Following the parade, the Hegland’s attended the Wonder Lanes open house.

Saturday evening, the family enjoyed the brisket dinner hosted by the New Rockford Lions.

Sunday, Amanda’s parents, Terry and Nancy Weischedel, came up from South Dakota and enjoyed the Sheyenne Fourth of July parade. The Hegland Cattle float was in the parade. After the parade, the group ate at the firepit dinner at Ostby Hall.

This past weekend, the Hegland’s camped at Wylie Park in Aberdeen, S.D., and also went to Storybook Land.
