Obituary: Gordon Twedt

Gordon Twedt, 88, of McHenry, N.D. died on July 12, 2021, at Nelson County Health System in McVille, N.D., under the care of hospice.

Gordon Knut Twedt was born on September 3, 1932 to Knut and Thelma (Hogie) Twedt in McHenry, N.D. Gordon grew up on the family farm near McHenry and Tolna, N.D. with his two brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Oak Grove High School, Fargo, N.D. in 1949. He then served in the U.S Army and attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis, Minn.

Gordon married Ardis Quanbeck on August 25, 1956, at New Luther Valley Free Lutheran Church in McVille, N.D. Gordon and Ardis lived on the family farm and raised five children. In addition to his career with the dairy and grain farming operation, Gordon also served on numerous boards and associations in the community and in the farming industry. He loved the life of the farmer and continued to help out his son and grandson after retirement.

Gordon grew up as a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, N.D., and later in life was a member of New Luther Valley Free Lutheran Church, McVille, N.D. Christian faith was important to Gordon. He taught Sunday School and led Bible studies and served on boards, both at Gethsemane and New Luther Valley, and while he and Ardis wintered in Weslaco, Texas, the last 20 years. Gordon also served as a Gideon after retiring from farming, sharing the Word of God and promoting the distribution of the Bible and the good news it contains.

Gordon is survived by his wife; his children Ron Twedt, Moorhead, Minn.; Carol (John) Collins, Carrington, N.D.; Curt (Pam) Twedt, Oxbow, N.D.; Duane (Andrea) Twedt, Lakota, N.D.; and Alan (Julie) Twedt, Portland, N.D.; his grandchildren Claire and Maren Twedt, David, Erik and Nathan Collins, Emma (Stafford) Thompson, Andrew and Jonathan Twedt, Ryan and Cassandra Twedt, Solveig (Jacob) Jameson, Malena, Elsie and Jens Twedt; his brother, Marcus Twedt, Tolna, N.D., sisters-in-law Velda Twedt, Fergus Falls, Minn., and Charlotte Quanbeck, McVille, N.D.; numerous nieces and nephews and many relatives in Norway.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur Twedt, sisters Isabel Johnson and Agnes Howard, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Clifford Johnson, Chuck Howard, Marvin Quanbeck, Kent and Mabel Quanbeck, and Lee and Hannah Quanbeck.

Visitation was held July 14, 2021 at 6 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m. at the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille, N.D. The funeral service was July 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial was at Gethsemane Cemetery, rural Tolna, N.D. Funeral honors were provided by Tolna American Legion Post #162.
