Obituary: James Frederickson

James D. Frederickson, 73, of Carrington, N.D. passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, N.D.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, N.D. Burial was at the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, N.D. Rev. David Frederickson officiated, with special music by Heidi Akkerman and Teresa Edland. Casket bearers were Paul Hendrickson, Wes Heinley, Pat Wheeler, Tom Wheeler, Brad Miller, Mike Wolf, Dennis Montgomery, Josh Pretzer, Maruis Botha, Red Skytland, J.W. Schroeder and Dallas Braaten. Honorary bearers included Jim's nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Military honors provided by Sykeston American Legion, Bourke-Hollingsworth, Post #17, the N.D. National Guard Funeral Honors Team and the N.D. Patriot Guard.

James - "Jim" - "PD" was born Dec 1, 1947 in Jamestown, to LeRoy and Elizabeth (Reimers) Frederickson. Jim attended first grade in Jamestown. Second grade through 12th grade he was in Ray, N.D., and graduated in 1965 from Ray High School. During his summer years growing up, he spent summers working on his aunt and uncles' farms. Jim attended N.D. State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. for two years, finishing with a degree in auto body repair.

After graduating from NDSCS he worked for Fred Pepple at Carrington Motors. Jim was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He served in the Vietnam War in the 101st Airborne Division - combat engineer, earning a National Defense Service Medal - Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device - Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze Service Stars - Bronze Star Medal and an Army Commendation Medal.

After returning from Vietnam, Jim was employed in Jamestown at R.M. Stoudt in autobody. He returned to Carrington and worked for Central City Lumber in sales. On May 7, 1977, Jim was united in marriage to Jane Neumiller in Sykeston, N.D. Jim did a short stint with the N.D. State Highway Department, a lumber yard in Hebron, N.D. and Dakota Growers. He later returned to Central City Lumber until he retired. Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011 and ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2014.

Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jane, Carrington, N.D.; brother David (Sharon) Frederickson, Plainview, Minn., and sister Becky (Rick) Pretzer, Carrington, N.D.; sisters-in-law Pat Tofte, Fargo, N.D.; Shirley (Larry) Jackson, Jamestown, N.D.; Mary Williams, Sykeston, N.D., and Karen Neumiller, Sykeston, N.D.; numerous nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Elizabeth Frederickson; mother-in-law and father-in-law Richard and Virginia Neumiller; brothers-in-law James Neumiller, John Williams and Otto Tofte, and three nephews.
