The New Rockford Community Foundation is bringing back game show excitement on Saturday, Nov. 20!
Readers may remember Deal or No Deal, in which contestants were drawn out of the game one by one, revealing a small group who battled it out for part of the $2,000 cash prize! After a two-year hiatus, the foundation's board of directors is ready to resume the fun and games, while raising funds for the community's endowment fund. This time, though, there's a new game. Two to be exact.
Enter Encore Events, a Minot, N.D. based entertainment company. Their version of the popular classic TV show Family Feud will set teams of five against each other in a rousing game of The Feud. Competitive community members, this is your opportunity to shine!
If you've watched Family Feud, you know the drill. Two teams of five face-off, the first one from each team at the buzzer, to answer the host's question with one of the most popular answers as given by 100 people. The person who gives the more popular answer of the two chooses to pass or play.
Members of the team who play the question take turns giving answers, seeking to reveal all the top answers before they get three strikes. If they get three strikes, the other team has a chance to steal the points by answering correctly.
The winning team in each round scores the total points for all revealed answers to that question. The team with the highest point total at the end of the game is the round winner and will move onto the Speed Round.
The Feud will be followed by another classic game, Name That Tune. Teams of five will race to be the first to name tunes from a variety of genres and eras.
Businesses, organizations, groups and families, sign up your team by calling Amanda at (701) 947-2205. The Feud is limited to 12 teams, while Name That Tune can have up to eight teams.
Prefer to be a spectator, and watch as your friends and neighbors go to battle? Tickets to the live event are $50, which includes a prime rib and shrimp meal, with sides and dessert. Musical entertainment follows the games.
The 50/50 Lucky Duck Pluck will be back too! Purchase a limited number of ducks available during each round, and the winner gets to keep half the money collected.
The evening begins with a social at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with The Feud getting underway at 7 p.m. at the New Rockford Eagles Club. Purchase tickets from any foundation board member: Josh Guler, Kerri Allmaras, Laura Hager, Alyson Myhre, Barb Granger, Amy Ellingson or Becki Schumacher. All proceeds go to the New Rockford Community Foundation.
This event was made possible by a generous donation from the New Rockford Eagles Club, who contributed charitable gaming funds to cover the costs of the game show and the food.
The goal is to raise $10,000 per year for the fund, chair Josh Guler said Tuesday. In addition to ticket sales, the foundation is seeking business sponsorships. Sponsor a team or two, treat your employees to an evening of entertainment, or sponsor one of the side raffles or drawings.
Established in 2008, the New Rockford Community Foundation is a permanent endowment fund with a balance of over $160,000. Donations from many people are pooled and invested, so that the fund grows over time, while using a portion of the investment returns to make grants.
The North Dakota Community Foundation oversees the management of the endowment fund and helps the Advisory Committee raise additional funds every year. For more information, please visit http://www.NDCF.net/NewRockford.
