Robert Lloyd Thompson, 78, of Sheyenne, N.D., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, N.D.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Ostby Hall, Sheyenne, N.D. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne, N.D. Honorary bearers will be Dustin Ekren, Donovan McGough, Andrew McGough and Christopher McGough.

Robert Thompson was born April 22, 1943 in Sheyenne, N.D. to Nickolie Alton and Phyllis Thompson. He was raised on the family farm in Sheyenne along with his four siblings. He grew up helping his folks with farming their land and raising the livestock.

Robert met Anita L. Wetzel when they were teenagers and Anita was attending high school. Robert married Anita on Aug. 22, 1964 at the age of 21. They were married at St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan, N.D. Robert and Anita moved to the family farm in Sheyenne before moving to Grand Forks, N.D., where they raised four children. Anita passed away on Aug. 13, 2012.

Robert was a member of the Jaycee's Club in Grand Forks, N.D. He attended UND for his Accounting Degree, while working as a bookkeeper at Popplers Music. He did bookwork and farm work for his neighbors in Sheyenne, worked at the grain elevator, and sold life insurance for New York Life, before finding his true calling doing over-the-road trucking.

Robert worked for R and R Transport until he retired at the age of 65, when he moved home to care for his ailing parents. During his career, he was awarded with hitting the "million miles club," twice.

He is survived by his children Todd (Lisa) Thompson, Grand Forks, N.D.; Keely (Mark) Sabinash, Hastings, N.D.; Troy Thompson, Golden Valley, Minn., and Dawn (Ben) Schoeberl, Las Vegas, Nev.; his siblings: Kay Hartung, Dubuque, Iowa; Doug (Brenda) Thompson, Aberdeen, S.D.; Nickolie (Jackie) Thompson, Sheyenne, N.D. and Ryan Thompson, Moorhead, Minn., as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Phyllis; his wife Anita; his niece Kayla; and one granddaughter.
