The New Rockford-Sheyenne girls basketball team is back in action for the 2021-22 season, starting off with a Region 4 opener against the Rolette Comets.
The Rockets girls varsity team doesn't have many upperclassmen this year. With the loss of six seniors, many underclassmen had to be bumped up to the varsity level. The starting lineup for the Rockets consists of two seniors, one junior, one sophomore and one freshman.
Kelsie Belquist was the star player of the night during the Region 4 contest against the Comets. Belquist scored a total of 28 points, being the only scorer for the Rockets in double digits. Kennedy Demester and Kaiya O'Connor came in behind Belquist with five points each.
Hannah Strong and Morgan Casavant were the lead scorers for the Comets with eight each.
The Rockets defeated the Comets 44-32.
The Rockets junior varsity and junior high teams also came out victorious against the Comets. The Rockets junior varsity team took the 36-34 win against the Comets and the junior high team defeated the Comets 32-22 in six quarters.
The junior high teams started their season on Monday, Nov. 29 in Pingree against the M/P-B Thunder. The seventh and eighth grade teams were unsuccessful in their quest for victory. The seventh grade team lost 15-22, and the eighth grade team lost 16-26.
