Rockets take first Region 4 win of the season

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted their Region 4 rivals, the North Star Bearcats, on Tuesday, Dec. 7. The Rockets were able to push past the Bearcats to win 49-41.

During the first quarter, both teams were putting up shots left and right. The Rockets held a two-point lead on the Bearcats by the end of the first.

The second quarter had a different speed than the first. The Bearcats earned a total of seven points in the second quarter, versus the Rockets who scored a total of 14 points, with six coming from Kelsie Belquist, three each coming from Kennedy Demester and Kaiya O'Connor, and two from Madisen Myhre.

Although many errors were made in the first two quarters, the Rockets kept ahead of the Bearcats 25-16. Both teams weren't ready to give up yet.

Full court press was the name of the game during the second half of the game. Full court press brought many fouls for each team, with 14 coming from New Rockford-Sheyenne and ten coming from North Star.

The Bearcats came back to score ten points in the third quarter, but the Rockets were able to stay ten points ahead after scoring 11 during the third quarter.

The Bearcats showed that they were a tough opponent in the fourth quarter. Senior Danielle Hagler was the lead scorer for the Bearcats in the fourth quarter, putting up two free-throws and three field goals. The Bearcats scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to catch the Rockets. The Bearcats were defeated 49-41.

Belquist led the Rockets with 14 total points. Mya Cudworth and Demester also scored in the double digits, with Cudworth scoring 12 and Demester scoring 11.

Hagler held the most points for the Bearcats with 18. Gracie Miller and Lindsey Nyhagen came in behind Hagler with eight each.

The junior varsity and junior high teams weren't as successful as the varsity team. The junior varsity team lost 40-50. The junior high team was defeated 35-22.

The Rockets will host the Carrington Cardinals (A,B,8,7) on Monday, Dec. 14, starting with seventh grade at 4:00 p.m. Come out and cheer on the Rockets to victory!
