Rockets take down Lady Titans

On Monday, Dec. 20, Rocket and Lady Titan fans traveled to Cooperstown to watch the nondistrict matchup between the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets and the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans.

The Lady Titans and the Rockets held a similar win-loss ratio, with both teams 3-3 overall.

The first quarter of the game brought many simple mistakes, most being fouls on Griggs-Midkota centers Asia Becherl and Jenna Larson. Within the first few minutes of the quarter, the Rockets had tallied up 10 of the 16 fouls made throughout the game, which meant easy points for the Lady Titans.

At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Titans led by four. The Rockets came back fighting in the second quarter, to take a four-point-lead on the Lady Titans.

The Rockets knew they couldn't back down now. With Kennedy Demester's second three of the night, the Rockets were able to keep a seven-point lead on the Lady Titans.

Quarter four - will the Rockets come out victorious, or will the Lady Titans? Griggs-Midkota junior Lauryn Halvorson hit two three-pointers during the fourth quarter, but it simply wasn't enough for the Lady Titans. The Rockets defeated the Lady Titans 54-45.

B-squad, eighth grade and seventh grade teams weren't as successful as the varsity team. B-squad lost 25-33, eighth grade lost 12-25 and seventh grade lost 6-27.

Next up for the Rockets will be Region 4 competitors, the Nelson County Chargers (A,B,JH), on Monday, Jan. 4, starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Titans will compete in the Thunder Christmas Classic in Northwood against the North Border Eagles on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 2:30 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 30 at 4:15 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 4, the Lady Titans will host the May-Port CG Patriots (A,B,8,7) starting at 4 p.m.
