Sheldon Nutz, age 79, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Bothell, Wash. He was born in Harvey, N. D. to Edwin and Ida (Mindt) Nutz. His parents and brother Curtis (of Queen Creek, Ariz.) preceded him in death.
Sheldon proudly served two years in the Army. Part of his military career was served in Germany.
He married Nancy Kempel in 1967. They had two sons, Shawn and Steve Nutz. Before Steve was born they moved to Washington State.
Boeing hired Sheldon to work on the Minuteman project only to be laid off shortly after moving. As luck would have it, a few days later he was hired by the Great Northern Railroad, who a month later, merged with Northern Pacific and Chicago, Burlington and Quincy to become the Burlington Northern Railroad. He enjoyed his career as a Fireman, then a Locomotive Engineer for 34 years.
Sheldon married Christina (Sylvester-Knutson) in 1985. She had two daughters Shaylee Knutson and Maegan Knutson (Dave Halgren). Together they shared four grandchildren, Connor and Maddi Nutz, Isabelle Watson and Ruby Halgren.
He is also survived by his sister Marge Sogn (Bob), of Tucson, Ariz .; sister-in-law Karen Nutz of San Tan Valley, Ariz .; nieces Renee Carrasco of Tucson, Ariz., Melissa Karlovic of San Tan Valley, Ariz. and great niece Lauren Carrasco of Tucson, Ariz.
Shel was fortunate to enjoy 18 years of retirement and to live close to his children and grandchildren. Much time was spent with his family and traveling either by land, sea or air. He loved to drive to get to his destination. Even a short trip put a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, neighbors and his keno family.
