Lady Indians remain unbeaten

-Dauphinaias breaks record for most career points in Four Winds history

The Rockets took yet another tough loss to District 7 competitors, the Four Winds/Minnewaukan Lady Indians, on Monday, Jan. 24 in Fort Totten.

The Lady Indians (14-0) are currently ranked number two in the state behind the Kindred Vikings (13-0).

The Rockets simply knew they wouldn't be able to keep up with the Lady Indians. In just the first quarter, the Rockets tallied up six points, whereas the Lady Indians scored 24.

And that's how the next three quarters went. The Lady Indians kept scoring in the double digits up until the fourth quarter.

Four Winds/Minnewaukan senior Myona Dauphinias was recognized in the third quarter for breaking the school record for the most points in her high school career. Jessica Hale recently held this record with 1,625 career points. Dauphinias is now the all-time scoring leader in school history for Four Winds/Minnewaukan, with 1630 career points and counting. Dauphinias' next goal to reach this season is to play on the Alerus Center floor in March. Congrats Myona!

With a 52-point lead, FW/M head coach Sean Gourd chose to put in the junior varsity athletes. Along with the junior varsity athletes, senior Brianna Littlewind was given the opportunity to play. With the FW/M bench yelling to shoot, Littlewind took a shot from the 3-point line and swished the ball. Not only did the Four Winds/Minnewaukan bench go wild, but the Lady Indian fan section roared.

Kelsie Belquist led the Rockets in points with 10. Belquist was the only Rocket athlete to score in double digits. As for the Lady Indians, Dauphinias led with 24 points. Also in double digits for the Lady Indians were Mahpiya Jackson with 13, Ezura Rainbow with 12, Alionna Lawrence with 11 and Mallory Yankton with 10.

The Rockets junior varsity team came home with a better outcome than the varsity and junior high teams. With hardwork, determination and confidence, the Rockets pulled away from the Lady Indians, bringing home a 36-30 win.

Sophomore Lora Wobbema was the top scorer for the junior varsity team with 11 total points. Ava Peterson and Kaiya O'Connor also scored in double digits with 10 points each. FW/M freshman Ava Gourd led the Lady Indians with nine points.

The NR-S junior high team was also defeated by the Lady Indians 34-2. Madison Hultgren was the lone scorer for the Rockets. Seventh grader Mercie Morgan led the Lady Indians with 12.

The Rockets girls' basketball team will travel to Drake on Monday, Jan. 31 to take on the Drake-Anamoose Raiders (A,B) starting at 5:45 p.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 3, the Rockets will trek to Leil to compete against the Barnes County North Bison (A,B) starting at 4:30 p.m.

Next up for the Lady Indians are the Region 4 competitors, the Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich Cardinals (A,B,JH), on Monday, Jan. 31 in Fort Totten starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Indians will host yet another Region 4 competition in Minnewaukan on Feb. 1 against the Nelson County Chargers (A,B) starting at 5:45 p.m.

On Feb 4, the Lady Indians will travel to Rugby to take on the Panthers (A,B,C) starting at 4:15 p.m. This will be the last regular season game for the Lady Indians before the District 7 Tournament in Maddock on Feb. 11, 12, and 14.
