Jacobson cousins excel at Carrington Bullseye and 3D Tournaments

On Saturday, Jan. 29, nearly 200 archers from 12 nearby school districts descended on the Carrington Public School to compete in the Carrington 3D and Bullseye Archery Tournaments.

Sophomore Connor Cose from Mt. Pleasant High School seized top marks in the bullseye tournament, scoring 293 points with 24 bullseye's. Cose's 293 points placed him first in every boys and highschool ranking, and were the most scored by a single archer in either tournament.

However, Cose was outdone in the 3D tournament by Octavia Ralph-Martinson from Griggs County Central, who took home first place in the high school, twelfth-grade and overall girls rankings with 281 points, outscoring every other archer competing in the 3D tournament - both male and female.

Leading the way for New Rockford-Sheyenne, meanwhile, were the Jacobson cousins. In the bullseye tournament, Kailar Jacobson improved his score of 257 from last week's Kensal tournament, to 269 in Carrington, vaulting him to first place among all ninth-grade boys. He did his best work in the 3D tournament, however, scoring 272 points to take first place among ninth-grade boys, and second in the high school and overall boys' rankings.

Layton Jacobson, meanwhile, shined brightest in the bullseye tournament. His 287 points and 19 bullseye's were the highest marks set by an NR-S archer on Saturday, and ranked him first among all middle school and seventh-grade boys, as well as second among boys overall. Layton managed 262 points in 3D, enough to place second among all middle school boys and first among all seventh graders.

The Jacobson's weren't the only set of relatives that stood out, however, as the Braaten brothers, Alex and Taylor, set the highest scores among all of Carrington's archers. Eighth-grader Alex Braaten outscored his older brother by a single point (255 to 254) in the 3D tournament, propelling him to eleventh and second place in the overall and eighth-grade boys' rankings, respectively.

But when it came to target shooting, it was Taylor Braaten who set the higher mark, scoring 278 points with 12 bullseye's. In the high school, twelfth-grade and overall boys' rankings, Taylor finished third, second and fourth place, respectively.

The first and only archery tournament hosted by New Rockford-Sheyenne this season was held on Friday, Feb. 4, and Saturday, Feb. 5. Afterwards, local archers set their sights on the 3D and bullseye tournaments in Wilton on Feb. 11-12.
