On Saturday, March 5, 57 New Rockford-Sheyenne archers along with their parents and coaches traveled to the Barnes County North public school near Leil to compete in the BCN bullseye tournament.
Of those 57 NR-S archers, seven earned a spot in the top ten in overall boys/girls. Those seven being Kailar Jacobson, Layton Jacobson, Hunter Genre, Koy Zieman, Kyria Dockter, Mark McDowell and Macey Wobbema.
The Jacobson cousins, Kailar and Layton, were the top medalists for the Rockets. Kailar shot a score of 283 with 160 of those points coming from tens, earning second place in overall boys. Kailar took third place in the entire tournament. Layton on the other hand, shot a score of 281, with 15 tens, securing fourth place in overall boys. Layton finished the tournament in sixth place overall.
Hunter Genre was the third Rocket archer to place in the top ten overall. Hunter shot a score of 277, with a total of 13 tens, placing him in fifth among overall boys and seventh in the entire tournament.
Freshman Colin Olson, of North Sargent School, took the first place medal in the overall tournament. Colin shot a score of 288 with 18 tens. He secured first place in high school boys, ninth grade boys and overall boys. Along with Olson, Mackenzie Nogowski, also of North Sargent, secured second place in the tournament with a score of 285 and 16 tens. Mackenzie took first place in middle school girls, seventh grade girls and overall girls.
Kensal archer Kyle Johnson took fourth place in bullseye, with a score of 282 and 17 tens. He took first place in 10th grade boys, and third place in both high school boys and overall boys.
Rylee Kramlich of Barnes County North, shot a score of 281 with 16 tens to earn fifth place in the tournament. Rylee took first in high school girls and 10th grade girls, and took second in overall girls behind Nogowski. BCN senior Casey Everson also finished in the top ten, earning 10th place with his score of 278 with 12 tens. Casey finished fifth in high school boys, first in 12th grade boys and sixth in overall boys.
Griggs County archers Octavia Ralph-Martinson and Rylee Suhr took eighth and ninth places respectively. Octavia shot a score of 280 with 14 tens, and Rylee shot 278 with 12 tens. Octavia finished first in 12th grade girls, second in high school girls and third in overall girls, whereas Rylee took second in 10th grade girls, third in high school girls and fourth in overall girls.
Koy Zieman, Mark McDowell and Sawyer Huso were only a few points off from making the top ten. Koy shot a 277 with a total of 13 tens. Koy took first place in sixth grade boys, second in middle school boys and eighth in overall boys. Mark scored a total of 275 with 13 tens, taking third in 11th grade boys, eighth in high school boys and 10th in overall boys. Sawyer shot a score of 272 with eight tens. Sawyer placed third in sixth grade boys, fourth in middle school boys and 12th in overall boys.
Kyria Dockter and Macey Wobbema led on the girls side of the spectrum. Kyria shot a 269 with a total of eight tens, securing second in 11th grade girls, fifth in high school girls and eighth in overall girls. Macey shot a score of 268 with six tens, placing her second in 12th grade girls, sixth in high school girls and 10th in overall girls.
Keaton Cudworth (269, nine tens) and Jacob Louters (268, eight tens) finished ninth and 10th respectively in high school boys. Fisher Genre took second in elementary boys with a score of 261 with six tens.
Seventh grader Eli Alfstad earned ninth place in middle school boys with a score of 257 with 10 tens. Eli's younger brother, Braylon, shot a total of 245 with three tens to take ninth place in elementary boys.
Lora Wobbema shot a score of 260 with three tens to take 10th place in high school girls and Rikka Gudmunson scored 255 with eight tens to take sixth place in middle school girls. Fourth grader Taylin Jacobson took seventh place in elementary girls with a score of 221 with one ten.
This bullseye tournament was the first tournament that NR-S fourth grader Tyler Zieman was able to compete in. Back on Jan. 21, Tyler had found out he had broken his arm in two places, with a big break on the radius and a buckle fracture on the ulna. Tyler was recently cleared to compete in archery meets, with only three left to go. Tyler shot a score of 225 with a total of one ten, and finished sixth in fourth grade boys.
A total of 20 Rockets' archers shot their personal bests at this tournament. Those 20 being: Braylon Alfstad, 245; Megyn Bjerke, 213; Jaydee Duda, 215; Seth Greiner, 178; Rikka Gudmunson, 255; Angelina Hall, 163; Makaya Heskin, 143; Sawyer Huso, 272; Kailar Jacobson, 283; Taylin Jacobson, 221; Jacob Louters, 268; Mark McDowell, 275; August Meier, 208; Hudson Myhre, 221; Camden Rieger, 219; Glenn Skjerva, 226; Koy Zieman, 277; Tyler Zieman, 225; Olivia Larson, 224.
The Rockets' archers traveled to Rolla to compete in the 3D and bullseye tournament on Saturday, March 12, this will be covered in the March 21 edition. This tournament was the last tournament before the Rockets' head to Minot on March 18-19 to compete in the 2022 North Dakota State 3D and Bullseye tournament.
Back on Feb. 26, Rockets' archers Layton Jacobson, Kyria Dockter, Sawyer Huso, Fisher Genre and Koy Zieman competed in the Oakes 3-D and Bullseye Tournaments. Genre also competed in the Garrison 3D and Bullseye Tournaments that day.
Layton and Fisher both finished in the top ten of either middle school boys or elementary school boys. Layton shot a score of 283 with 16 tens, to take first place in seventh grade boys and middle school boys, and third in overall boys. Layton finished the bullseye tournament in seventh place. Fisher scored a 257 with five tens to take second in elementary school boys.
Layton, Kyria, Koy and Fisher all scored in the top ten for the Oakes 3D Tournament.
Layton shot a 283 with 18 tens, taking first in middle school boys and seventh grade boys, and third in overall boys. Layton took fourth place overall.
Kyria and Koy each finished 10th in their age brackets. Kyria shot a score of 264 with 11 tens and Koy shot a 260 with six tens. Kyria also finished second in the 11th grade girls division and Koy finished fifth in the sixth grade boys division.
Fisher secured third place in both the fifth grade boys division and the elementary school boys division with a score of 252 with 10 tens. Sawyer took seventh place in sixth grade boys with a shot of 256 with 11 tens.
