Charles Frank Mehring, 83, of Carrington, N.D., passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington, with burial following at the Carrington Cemetery. Fr. Terry Dodge officiated with special music by Marlene Boyer, Pius Koch, Erica Beck and the Sacred Heart Choir. Casket bearers were Becca & Jacob Holman, Ryan Gemar, Rob Beck, Rachel Beck, Erica Beck, Chris Hines and Brittany & Zach McNeely. Honorary bearers were all of Charles' great-grandchildren, Red Skytland, Bud Schock, Wick Larson, Jerry Klocke, Wes Kahl and Pius Koch. Military honors by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honors Team.
Charles Frank Mehring was born Oct. 15, 1938 to John and Helen (Anwiler) Mehring in Carrington, N.D. Charles enlisted in the US Air Force on April 23, 1956. He served four years and had an Honorable Discharge. On July 18, 1960 Charles was united in marriage to Marie Freeman at Kensal, N.D., and they moved to Wolfpoint, Mont. In 1962, they returned to Carrington where they raised their family. Charles worked as a salesman for Sweetheart Bread for 28 years. He also did janitor work at Carrington Elementary School and was the groundskeeper at Carrington Cemetery until he retired in 2014. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Charles is survived by three daughters: Janet (Dennis) Gemar, Fargo, N.D.; Nancy (Bob) Beck, Littleton, Colo. and Sandy (Brad) Hines, Andover, Minn.; son, Robert (JoAnn) Mehring, Fargo, N.D.; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Glenn (Patricia) Mehring, Carrington, N.D.; brothers-in-law, Art Freeman Jr., Fred (Verna) Freeman, Ray Haugen, Terry Luggar, and sisters-in-law, Carol Mehring and Lois (Jim) Mahutga.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie, brother John Mehring, sisters-in-law, Lois Freeman, Shirley Haugen and Cathy Luggar, and Luka Henderson.
