A hole new ball game

Schumacher swinging high for a chance to attend state golf

New Rockford-Sheyenne's golf team is nearing the end of their season. The golf team at NR-S has always been made up of only a select few students. This year, a total of six NR-S golfers are on the team; Jackson Schumacher, Dashyl Bichler, Kage Walford, Bennett Meier, Shaun Reimche and Jacob Louters. All six of these student athletes are from ninth grade and under. The golf team also donned a new coach for golf; that being John Christiansen.

Even though these golfers may be young, they are still putting their names out there; mainly eighth grader, Jackson Schumacher.

The first golf meet of the year was back on April 28 at Cottonwood Golf Course in Casselton. NR-S took ninth place out of a total of 10 teams. Top placer for the Rockets was Meier (53-52-105), who placed 44th out of 62 golfers. Other varsity golfers for the Rockets were Dashyl Bichler (54-52-106), Schumacher (51-56-107), Shaun Reimche (62-51-113) and Kage Walford (58-60-118).

On May 6, the Rockets' traveled to the east to golf the Cooperstown Country Club. The Rockets' placed fifth out of seven teams. Top placer for the Rockets' was Schumacher, who placed fourth out of 37 golfers with a score of 83. Schumacher was just four shy of state-qualifying. Bichler came in behind Schumacher with an overall score of 98, placing 25th. Also placing for the Rockets' were Walford (47-52-99) in 25th, Meier (50-52-102) in 29th place and Reimche (50-56-106) taking 33rd.

The Rockets' traveled to Oxbow Country Club on May 10, and placed seventh out of 10 teams. Schumacher excelled, and placed 17th out of 54 golfers with a score of 90. Other varsity golfers for the Rockets' were Reimche (45-53-98), Walford (52-55-107), Meier (52-62-114) and Bichler (57-64-121).

On Monday, May 16, the Rockets' traveled 15 miles south to golf at Cross Roads Golf Course in Carrington. The Rockets placed ninth out of 10 teams. Schumacher hit the ball out of the park, and placed 20th out of 56 golfers. Schumacher scored an 83, just shy of state-qualifying by four, once more. Reimche, Walford and Bichler followed closely behind, with Reimche and Walford ending with 98 overall and Bichler with 101.

The Rockets traveled to Fargo on Wednesday, May 18 to golf Rose Creek Golf Course. This golf meet will be covered in the May 30 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
