Rockets girls' 4x200-meter relay team headed to state track meet

On the road, yet again. The New Rockford-Sheyenne track and field team traveled to Rugby to compete in the Hanneman Memorial track meet.

With only a few track meets left before the state meet on May 26-28, track athletes have minimal time to earn state-qualifications.

With a beautiful day, with only a hint of North Dakota wind, the Rockets girls' 4x200-meter relay team was able to secure, yet another, state qualification.

The 4x200-meter relay team was made up of Lucy Meier, Katie Allmaras, Kelsie Belquist and Emmie Belquist. These four athletes previously state-qualified in the 4x100-meter relay at the Mariya Tate Memorial in Rugby back on May 5. The girls' 4x200-meter relay team finished in second place behind Bottineau, with a time of 1:50.00.

The Rockets girls' also had a relay team for the 4x100-meter relay. Kennedy Demester, Paige Knatterud, Ava Peterson and K. Allmaras placed sixth with a time of 57.03 seconds.

K. Belquist took first place in the 400-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, all with state-qualifying times. K. Belquist also set her personal record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.16 seconds.

Peterson competed in javelin, placing third with a throw of 104'6". Peterson also placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.36. Peterson set her personal records in both of these events.

Other top-10 placings for the girls' team came from E. Belquist and Meier. E. Belquist competed in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the long jump events; she placed 10th in the 100, ninth in the 400 and sixth in long jump. E. Belquist also secured personal records in the 400 and long jump events. Meier placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.56.

Although these athletes didn't place in the top-10, they set their personal records in their events. Addysen Fandrich threw her personal record of 24'7" in shot put, placing 31st. Knatterud set her personal record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.08 seconds. Sophomore, Lora Wobbema, set personal records in shot put and long jump; throwing 25'8" in shot and jumping 12'2" in long jump.

And last, but not least, Addison Wallace set her personal record in the 100-meter hurdles. Prior to competing in the event, coach Elliott Belquist told Wallace to shorten her steps from five to four, in hopes of obtaining a faster time, which seemed to be the kicker. During the event, Wallace could hear cheers from her past track coach, Allison Montgomery of Westhope/Newburg, coming from alongside the track. After completing the hurdles, Wallace ran to Montgomery to embrace her with a hug, thanking her for cheering her on.

As for the boys, NR-S senior, Kaden Jensen, led the team. Jensen brought home first place in three events: high jump, long jump and triple jump. Jensen also competed in the 100-meter dash, alongside New Rockford native, Trasen Pollman, who now resides in Bottineau. Jensen placed fifth with a time of 11.85 seconds, with Pollman following his trail and placing sixth with a time of 11.90 seconds. Jensen set his personal record in triple jump with a jump of 42'0.75".

Eighth grader, Easton Benz, is also having an outstanding track season. Benz competed in the 100-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and long jump; he placed eighth in the 100 with a time of 11.85 seconds, fourth in the 400 with a time of 56.14 seconds and eighth in long jump with a leap of 19'4.5". Benz also set his personal records in all three of these events.

Ninth graders, Jackson Brazil and Porter Granger, each set personal records in one of their events. Brazil threw his personal record of 60'9" in discus and Granger set his in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.27 seconds.

Junior high boys, Thomas Allmaras, Malaki Kukowski and Vincent Ruppell, also set personal records at the Hanneman Memorial.

T. Allmaras, Kukowski and Ruppell all competed alongside each other in the 400-meter dash, and they all set their personal record times in this event; T. Allmaras with a time of 1:05.25, Kukowski with a time of 1:08.96 and Ruppell with a time of 1:07.38. Kukowski also set his personal record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.11 seconds.

The Rockets competed in the North Central Region Track Meet on Saturday, May 20 in Rugby. This meet will be covered in the May 30 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
