Eddy-New Rockford Public Libray’s summer reading kick-off will be Friday, June 3 from 5 - 6 p.m.
Bring a towel and wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet! We will be playing water games, corn hole, yardzee and much more.
The summer reading program will again be to read five books and pick a prize, and also get into a prize drawing for a bike at the end of summer. Yes, we will be giving away two bikes this year (thank you to the Eagles Club!), so for every five books you read you get into a drawing for a brand new bike!
The North Dakota State Library (NDSL) has partnered with libraries across the state and state agencies to bring a virtual summer reading kickoff on June 1, 2, and 3. This free Facebook event will take place each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting with a keynote presentation.
On Wednesday, June 1, Kathy MacMillan, author of the “Little Hands Signing” series, will present Signs Under the Sea. Dive into splashy stories, songs, and fun activities that explore the world of underwater animals through American Sign Language.
On Thursday, June 2, Cynde McInnis shares her story about how she took her childhood passion for whales and made it her career. This session is geared toward teens who are interested in having a career relating to the ocean or conservation but don’t know how to proceed.
On Friday, June 3, staff from the Minnesota Zoo will take viewers on a tour of the zoo, including Discovery Bay, where you’ll explore the variety of life under the sea before seeing the shark reef, tidal pools, sea horses, and more. This tour is designed to highlight the importance of marine ecosystems and what people can do to protect them. The finale will be meeting the penguins in the Minnesota Zoo’s South African penguin exhibit.
This three-day event will also include programs from libraries across the state.
Whether you can stay for the entire event or just a few of them, you won’t want to miss out on all the fun! Visit the ND State Library’s Facebook page at https://facebook.com/NDStateLibrary for more information.
