Vehicle struck by train

On Friday, Aug. 12, a vehicle was struck by a train near the intersection of 20th St. Northeast and 64th AvenueNortheast, approximately 2.5 miles northwest of New Rockford.

According to Eddy County Sheriff Paul Lies, Coty Remick of Carrington was northbound on 64th Avenue when the train struck his pickup's rear end.

The vehicle was tossed into the ditch by the impact, said Lies, and the bed of the pickup, which was the driver's work vehicle, was severely damaged. Remick, however, was not injured.

Lies said the operator had his music playing too loud, and was reaching for a beverage when the collision occurred, not allowing him to see or hear the train as it approached.

Alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
