Together we fight: Rockets get Region 4 win over Wildcats

After being named champions at the Devils Lake Varsity Tourney, the Rockets were ready to keep their winning streak aflame.

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Rockets hosted the Benson County Wildcats, a Super Region 4 competitor.

Before the start of the game, the Rockets and Wildcats joined hands in a prayer. Not only were they praying for Bailey Jacobson, as she fights Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but also for Benson County football coach, Bradley Kitzmann, as he battles lung cancer, and a Benson County players' aunt who is fighting breast cancer.

Our community and surrounding communities are all in need of our strength. Many have been hit hard, from sickness and death over just the past few months.

Both teams wore different colored laces; the Rockets wore purple and green laces for Jacobson, the Wildcats wore one teal lace for Kitzmann and one pink lace for the aunt with breast cancer.

Along with the different colored laces, the Rockets also wore green shirts that said "Together we fight."

The Rockets kicked off the game in high gear. Kelsie Belquist and Lora Wobbema manned the net, each earning two kills within 10 minutes of the first set.

The Wildcats had many errors hitting, which aided in many of the Rockets' points.

With NR-S senior, Madisen Myhre, out due to a foot injury, outside hitters Logan Cudworth and Emmie Belquist had to step in to play. Although both players are still young and learning, they played great. Both were able to score a kill each and a few digs.

The Rockets excelled in serving. A total of 10 aces were scored between K. Belquist, Cudworth and Ava Peterson.

K. Belquist and Wobbema led the team in kills, with 11 and seven, respectively. K. Belquist also held the most digs for the Rockets with 14.

As for the Wildcats, Aubrey Kenner and Shayna Gossen scored in double digits in digs with 11 and 10, respectively. Kenner was the only player to score on kills, with six total.

The Rockets will travel to Grafton on Tuesday, October 4 to take on the Spoilers starting with seventh grade at 3:30 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 6, the Rockets will host the Dunseith Lady Dragons (A,B,JH), for yet another Super Region 4 matchup starting at 5 p.m.
