Super Region 4 teams play for a cause

Bearcats hold annual Pink Out night, donate proceeds to Jacobson and TCMC Cancer fund

The Rockets were determined to keep their winning streak aflame as they traveled to Cando to take on the North Star Bearcats in their home gym.

The Bearcats held their annual "Pink Out" night, with a silent auction, pumpkin walk, warrior wall and a 50/50 raffle. All of the proceeds went to NR-S sophomore, Bailey Jacobson, and the TCMC Cancer fund. The bleachers were filled with fans clothed in pink clothing items.

Back on Sept. 24, the Rockets defeated the Bearcats in two at the Devils Lake Tournament. Without the Bearcats main hitter, Danielle Hagler, who graduated in May, the Rockets had a chance of defeating the Bearcats yet again.

The game started off with NR-S senior, Madisen Myhre, at the serving line. Myhre served three times, before the Bearcats earned the ball back after a kill from outside hitter McKenna Wilke.

The Bearcats and Rockets were neck-and-neck for nearly the entire game. A missed serve by Wilke, gave the Rockets a first set win of 25-17.

Set number two started out very similar. Kyria Dockter was the first sent to the line to serve, but was shut down after a kill from middle hitter, Elle Nicholas. Set two ended with an attack error from outside hitter Jorie Ahlberg.

The Rockets finished strong with a stinger of a kill from Ava Peterson to defeat the Bearcats 25-20 in the third set.

North Star juniors Payton Harpestad and Elle Nicholas led the Bearcats in both digs and kills. Harpestad had a total of 12 digs and nine kills, whereas Nicholas had a total of 11 digs and five kills. Also scoring in double digits for the Bearcats was Jorie Ahlberg with 13 assists.

Belquist held the most kills for the Rockets with 17 total. As for digs, Dockter, Belquist and Peterson were the top three scorers, with 13 digs for Dockter and 10 digs each for Belquist and Peterson.

Kaiya O'Connor also scored in the double digits with 26 assists.

With this Super Region 4 win, the Rockets currently sit first in the region (as of Wednesday, Oct. 12) with a record of 6-0.

The Rockets traveled to Rolla on Thursday, Oct. 15 to take on yet another Super Region 4 competitor: the North Prairie Cougars.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18 the Rockets will host the Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich Cardinals (A,B,C,JH) to complete their final regular season region games.

Both of these games will be covered in the Oct. 24 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
