A brisk cold breeze was about Saturday morning, September 24 as the Circle Trail Riders Inc. were busying themselves doing what needed to be done for the first day of the annual fall weekend ride.
Dale and Diane Rosenberg were hosts to this ride, dishing out loads of country hospitality to the 50 plus cowboys and girls who were patiently chomping on the bit to get this yearly show on the trail.
Ole Sol was shining bright above the down right COLD wind. The riders, all, were anxious to tackle another ride.
Hosts, Dale and Diane, led the way with their covered wagon and team, Beaut and Beauty with three other covered wagons, each having their share of passengers. They were Cory Jorgensen and team Waylon and Willie, Bill Zeigler and team Bud and Ben, and Brent Helseth and team Beauty and Bud. Brent's team was driven by Bob Longnecker of Mound, Minn. Bob is the second cousin to the late Ervin Longnecker.
Leaving the farmyard, the riders donned warm jackets and hoodies (hoods up) and gloves. The entourage came down the road, over a river (James) bridge, turned into a stubble field and slowly disappeared over a hill into the Pleasant Prairie township wilderness. They made their way over harvested fields, past bean and corn fields yet to be combined. They crossed the county line into Foster County's Nordmore townshiop and onto the former Anderson Sand and Gravel Pit. Here they enjoyed their lunch and a little break.
Then it was back into Eddy County with a hop, skip, and a jump and with 10 plus miles behind them, were back at camp.
It had been a grand day. No buck-offs or other serious mishaps. Although, there was a run-away when Scarlett Ludwig got off her horse for some reason, dropped the reins and the horse decided to catch up with his buddies, leaving her horseless. The matter was handled and Scarlett was soon back in the saddle.
Potluck supper was anjoyed under cover of a cozy shop. Our Rob Lies and his sidekick Tony Rademacher brought us their live music with their guitars, always a country treat.
With a fall chill in the air, a couple riders provided a campfire to snuggle up to, to take the chill out of the bones. How about a smokeless campfire? Yup! True! Lori Keller had one going in no time to help lower the goose bumps.
Here it is Sunday morning, September 25. Riders and teamster were rearing to go. Sol is up there, but the north wind is blowing. To no avail, teams hitched, saddles on. A short Sunday ride was underway.
Back in camp, all enjoyed root beer floats compliments of Bob Longnecker and threw together lunch of sorts. All said and done. Thanks y'all! See ya next time!
