Youth leagues return to Wonder Lanes

On Monday, Oct. 17, the bowling alley's new youth bowling league officially kicked off.

About two dozen children took part on the first day of bowling action for the league, and the kids had a blast knocking down pins while consuming as many sugary treats and goodies as their parents' wallets could afford.

The youth bowling league consists of two different groups: Kids in grades 2-8 compete after school on Mondays at 4 p.m., while those in grades 9-12 compete at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Also present last Monday was LeRoy Krueger, who stopped by to see how his old bowling alley was shaping up, and to support its new owner, Andrew Saucier, as he continues to get more bowling leagues started.

Saucier said that Krueger, who owned Wonder Lanes for more than a half century before Saucier took the reins, has been a great asset as he's worked to get the bowling alley back up and running.

"If I have a question he always answers it the best he can," Saucier said.

Meanwhile, the women's bowling league is on its fifth week of action, and the men's and mixed bowling leagues are now just over the horizon.

Saucier said nothing is set in stone quite yet, but that he's tentatively hoping to host the men's league on Thursdays at 7 p.m. and the mixed league on Sundays at 7 p.m.

And with league season now well underway, Saucier said he'll be changing the alley's open bowling hours.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 24, open bowling will only be available at Wonder Lanes from 4-10 p.m. on Fridays, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturdays.

Saucier also relayed some encouraging news regarding the bowling alley's kitchen.

Plumbing and electrical has been installed, he said, and they're just waiting on sheetrock before the state can begin its health inspection. Saucier added that his state liquor license is pending and that he's already got one from the City of New Rockford.

Those interested in participating in a bowling league are encouraged to contact Wonder Lanes at (701) 947-2428.
