Cardinals sweep Rockets

Jacobson family presented with $1,000 and support from LA/E/M

Oct. 18 brought the top two seeds in Super Region 4 together in the New Rockford-Sheyenne gymnasium: the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets and the Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich (LA/E/M) Cardinals.

Before the start of the b-squad game, the Cardinals presented Bailey Jacobson with $1,000. The entire LA/E/M team also purchased "Battling with Bailey" t-shirts from Positive Vibes Apparel to wear as their warmups in support of the family.

With LA/E/M junior, Cora Badding, back on the court after a knee injury last season, the Cardinals excelled at the net.

But it wasn't just Badding's blocks/kills at the net that secured this Super Region 4 win for the Cardinals.

Halle Jabs and Jalynn Swanson were two other key players for the Cardinals.

Jabs excelled at the serving line, where she scored seven of the team's 19 aces. Swanson on the other hand, is the setter for the Cardinals. Along with her 24 assists, she also assisted at the net with two major blocks.

The Rockets struggled mainly with coverage and this aided in many of the Cardinals' points.

NR-S junior Lucy Meier excelled at the net, with two major blocks against Badding.

Kelsie Belquist led the Rockets in kills with eight. Kaiya O'Connor held the most digs and assists for the team, with 14 and 11 respectively.

Also in double digits for the Rockets were Belquist and Dockter, with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

As for the Cardinals, Badding held the most kills with 18 total. Badding also led the Cardinals in digs with 15. Taryn Amble also scored in double digits with 10 digs. Swanson led the Cardinals in assists with 24.

The Cardinals also defeated the B-squad, C-squad and junior high Rockets.

The Rockets will travel to Cooperstown on Monday, Oct. 24 to take on the Griggs/Midkota Titans (A,B,C,8,7) starting at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Rockets will host the Nelson County Chargers (A,B,C,8,7) starting at 3:30 p.m. Before the start of the varsity game, the two NR-S seniors will be announced for senior night.
