"A Christmas Survival Guide" debuts at DPRCA on Dec. 1

The holiday season is upon us. For some, the tree is already up and a slew of gifts have already been purchased. For others, all their holiday planning is shoved into a few weeks, or even a few days.

Regardless of where you fall in that spectrum, you know that it's a little chaotic between Thanksgiving and the new year.

Need a break from the frenzy? Book your seats for DPRCA's "A Christmas Survival Guide." Opening Thursday, Dec. 1, this intimate revue takes a wry and knowing look at a stressful season.

Armed with a copy of A Christmas Survival Guide and an optimistic attitude, the characters charge into a holiday landscape searching for the true essence of Christmas.

"This series of comedic musical vignettes illustrates the true spirit and meaning of the holiday," says Artistic Director Elliott Schwab.

Among the actors, Gavin Brown is the only one who is making his first appearance on the DPRCA stage. Brown is a 2019 graduate of Devils Lake High School and grandson of Dwain and Connie Brown of Sheyenne. Last summer, he performed in Fort Totten Little Theater's "Grease."

Rounding out the cast are Jon Johnson, Danny Hollander, Grace Quam, Tessa Hartl and Paige Thomas. Each actor plays multiple roles throughout the show.

There are also a few surprises in store for patrons. For the first time since 2018, there will be a live band playing the music! On stage throughout the show, this three-piece band will add energy to the show. We'll take you behind the scenes with the bandmates – Annette Hovey, Cathy Bowman and Jacob Louters – in next week's special Winterfest hometown holiday edition of the Transcript.

They're switching up the meal choices too, in the spirit of the season. Instead of the classic bistro fare, DPRCA is hosting Christmas Dinner before each performance. Choose from four entrees. Three are traditional to the holiday table: roast beef, pork ribeye or chicken breast with mashed potatoes, salad and a vegetable medley. The fourth is vegetable pasta primavera with salad. All come with water and coffee for $16.95 per plate.

Call or text (701) 399-9634 to reserve your Christmas dinner table, and make your entree selection.

As usual, the bar and concessions will be open for each show. Get your popcorn, smoothies, glass of wine or bottle of beer and settle in for this fun show.

Performances run from Dec. 1 to 18. The show schedule is printed below. Please note the times of each performance. On Dec. 17, there are two performances. The schedule is also online, along with convenient ticketing. Go to http://www.dprca.com to book your seats today!
