Dakota Recreation Report: Nov. 28, 2022

Outdoor notes:

*It is illegal to chase, harass, and pursue any wildlife species, including coyotes, with snowmobile or tracked vehicles.

*Reminder that most roads and trails closed to hunting if posted on both sides.

*Hunters reminded to put identification on tree stands and blinds when set up on N.D. Game & Fish Dept. WMAs.

*Nov. 29: Dove season closes.

*Dec. 1: Snowmobile N.D. trails open, snow conditions permitting. Go to their website, (snowmobilend.org) and click “Trail conditions” for information.

*Dec. 4: Low Plain duck, merganser, and coot seasons close.

*Dec. 5: N.D. Game & Fish Dept. public advisory meeting, New Rockford Eagles Club, 7 p.m.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation: 1,449.24 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

*Stump Lake elevation: 1,449.29 MSL.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: 1,832.99 MSL; 15,300 cubic feet per second average (CFS) Garrison Dam daily releases.

*N.D. Game & Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: No reports.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Smaller area lakes iced over but no access recommended yet.

*Devils Lake, Lakeview Lodge, Minnewaukan: No new reports.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Bays icing over but unsafe for access yet.

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: Area lakes iced over but walk-on activity not recommended yet.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Pioneer Bait & Tackle, Jamestown: Little activity on area lakes.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: No new reports.

*Lake Ashtabula, The Hungry Pelican at the Crossing, Luverne: Lake icing over but access not recommended.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: Lake icing over with variable ice depths. No access advised yet.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait & Tackle, Garrison: Back bays on the east end of Lake Sakakawea icing over but unsafe for any walk-on fishing activity.

*Lakes Audubon & Sakakawea, Hwy. 83 Lawn & Leisure, Garrison: Lake Audubon and back bays of Lake Sakakawea icing over but no walk-on activity yet with unsafe ice conditions.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Missouri River tailrace remains quiet. No activity on Lake Sakakawea with back bays icing over but unsafe for access.

Hunting:

*Pheasants: Snow pushed birds into heavy cover.

*Waterfowl: Snow geese moved out with some Canada geese on the open water of Lake Sakakawea and Missouri River yet as long as they can get to fields to feed.
