Within our Walls: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

More than half of the youth in the United States have experienced a potentially traumatic event.

These events encompass such things as sexual assault/abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse, community violence, bullying, serious accidents, fires, disasters, medical trauma, or the death of a loved one. Approximately a quarter of youth exposed to a traumatic event will develop significant symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD increases a child's risk for other psychiatric conditions along with medical conditions.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a therapy designed to assist in the treatment of youth affected by a traumatic event. The therapy is a structured individual and parent trauma-focused model that includes skill-based components with trauma-specific components. Parental or Caregiver involvement is a hallmark component of TF-CBT. The length of TF-CBT ranges from 12 - 20 sessions and is approved for adolescents age 3-18.

Brittany Long, PMHNP at CHI St. Alexius Health has recently completed training and has been certified in TF-CBT. She is ready to use her new skills, and is currently accepting new clients.

Brittany is able to see clients in both Carrington, and New Rockford. Call 701-652-2515 to schedule an appointment at either location.
