STONE COLD SKYE KRAMLICH

An idea that was to witness its genesis in 2020 came to fruition three years later, following two instances of weather cancellation and one to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Central City played host to the State Class B Junior Varsity Wrestling Tournament at Carrington High School Saturday, January 14, with schools from throughout the state trotting out their younger grapplers for some valuable big-match chops in a largely low-pressure environment.

CHS, the host school, placed fifth among 19 scoring programs with 110 team points. The May-Port-CG Patriots won the meet with 128 points, followed by Velva, Lisbon and Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm from second to fourth.

The Cards had two weight class champions at the meet, Gabe Clifton at 113 pounds and Nic Garber at 126. Skye Kramlich was runner-up at 98 pounds, as was Jacob Hinrichs at 152.

Charles Jorgensen (195) and Kirby Freeman (220) each won a match in their brackets, and Kolby Zink had two wins to finish seventh in a well-contested 113-pound class.

Event organizers wish to thank all the volunteers, from referees, table workers, timekeepers, and others, that helped make the State Class B JV tourney a success.
