Hometown Sweep

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted the District 6, Region 3 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder.

After the Rockets' recent losses against the Carrington Cardinals and the North Prairie Cougars, they were itching for a win.

The Rockets came out in the first quarter, scoring 11 points against the Thunder, only allowing them to score a total of eight points.

With five drives to the basket by Kelsie Belquist in the second quarter, along with 3-pointers from Kaiya O'Connor and Katie Allmaras, the Rockets took a 15-point lead over the Thunder. Not even the two 3-pointers by Lilly Bohl could bring the lead down.

And the Rockets kept pushing in the second half of the game.

Both the Thunder and the Rockets scored 10 points each in the third quarter, which meant the Rockets were still ahead by 15.

But there was no stopping the Rockets. Another 14 points were scored in the fourth quarter for NR-S, with M/P-B only scoring 11. The Rockets had defeated the Thunder, 60-42, bringing their overall record to 13-6.

Isabel Schmidt led the Thunder, with a total of 12 points. Scoring in double digits for the Rockets were Belquist and Ava Peterson with 18 each and O'Connor with 15.

NR-S vs. North Star

Tuesday, Feb. 7

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Rockets hosted the North Star Bearcats.

With the momentum from the win over the M/P-B Thunder the previous day, the Rockets were amped up and ready for another win.

Kelsie Belquist soared out of the gates, taking steal by steal and breaking away to the basket to score nine of her 22 total points just in the first quarter. The Rockets only allowed the Bearcats to score eight points in the first quarter.

With a big 3-pointer by NR-S junior, Katie Allmaras, the Rockets took a 10-point lead over the Bearcats going into the second half.

The Rockets held the Bearcats to three points in the third quarter, whereas the Rockets scored a total of 12. This secured a 19-point lead for the Rockets.

Would the Bearcats come out of this slump? Not a chance. Another 3-pointer swished by Allmaras. Rocket fans went wild! Along with Allmaras' 3-pointer, the Rockets scored 13 more points to take the 52-25 region win over the Bearcats.

Belquist led the Rockets in points with a total of 22.

Jorie Ahlberg and Katie Erickstad were top scorers for the Bearcats with a total of six points each.

The Rockets will host the Dunseith Lady Dragons (A,B,JH) on Monday, Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m. in their final regular season game before the Super Region 4 Tournament. Before the start of the game, the NR-S seniors will be recognized.
