E. Belquist named Coach of the Year, Peterson & K. Belquist make All Region 4 Team

The third and final day of the Super Region 4 girls' basketball tournament kicked off on Thursday, Feb. 23 with the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets and the Four Winds/Minnewaukan Lady Indians competing for third place.
After the previous 44-37 win over the Lady Indians back on Jan. 17, the Rockets knew they could defeat them, but the Lady Indians came ready to fight for third place.
Just in the first quarter, the Lady Indians scored three 3-point shots between Hannah Fassett and Suri Gourd. This gave the Lady Indians a 7-point lead over the Rockets after the first.
But the Rockets began to push back in the second quarter. With a long 2-point shot by NR-S senior, Madisen Myhre, followed by a 3-pointer from the corner, the Rockets took a 1-point lead over the Lady Indians.
After the first half, the Rockets kept pushing, and the Lady Indians seemed to slow down. With another big 3-pointer from Myhre, the Rockets were now ahead 35-29.
Only one more quarter to go! The Rockets scored a total of nine points in the fourth quarter and only allowed the Lady Indians to score six. The Rockets had defeated the Lady Indians once again, 44-35.
Top scorers for the Rockets were Kelsie Belquist with 19, Ava Peterson with 13 and Myhre with 12.
S. Gourd led the Lady Indians with a total of 12 points.
At the end of the game, radio announcers had named Myhre as the player of the game. This was Myhre's final game as a Rocket. Congratulations on a great season, Madi, and good luck on your future endeavors!
Myhre finished her basketball career with a total of 143 points.
Congratulations to the Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich Cardinals on taking the Super Region 4 Championship win over the North Prairie Cougars. NR-S head coach, Elliott Belquist, was named Coach of the Year and Ethen Askvig of LA/E/M was named Athletic Director of the Year. Natalie Decoteau of St. John was awarded with the 2023 Senior Athlete of the Year award.
