It was a big day for NR-S archers at the Barnes County North Bullseye Tournament in Leal on Saturday, March 4. Particularly, the boys dominated the leaderboard in both the middle school and high school divisions.
NR-S ended the day with the top three places in the middle school boys' division. Koy Zieman's score of 284 was the best overall of the tournament, and he finished first in the division. Sawyer Huso scored his personal best, 283, and secured the second place medal, while Layton Jacobson got third place with a score of 278.
Three NR-S high school boys also earned medals at the tournament. Bradyn Collier finished in second place with a score of 279. Kailar Jacobson got fourth place with a 266, and Jackson Brazil's 266 was good for fifth place.
Kyria Dockter was the lone female NR-S archer to earn a medal. She scored a 272 and finished in second place among high school girls.
Hudson Myhre earned his first archery medal of the season in Leal. He scored a 249 and received sixth place in the elementary boys' division.
Other top 10 finishers for the Rockets included Vinnie Ruppell (261, eighth in high school boys), Rikka Gudmunson (260, ninth in high school girls), August Meier (248, seventh in elementary boys) and Kensley Engels (223, ninth in elementary girls).
Midkota-Kensal archers also participated in the tournament, and shot alongside NR-S archers that afternoon. It was the one-year anniversary of Mandy Hoyt's death on March 4, 2022, and many archers wore t-shirts they had printed last season in memory of her, "We wear gold for Mandy."
Mandy's daughter Harlie earned a medal in the tournament. She finished fifth among middle school girls with a 256. Her target mate was Braylon Alfstad of NR-S.
Kyle Johnson finished third in high school boys with a score of 268. Kaylynn Chamberlain of NR-S was his target buddy.
