Holding their own on the mat

On paper, the city of Carrington is a Class B town.

But if you delve deep into the history of wrestling in the Central City, it started, at least at the high school level, as a Class A program.

It's in that spirit that the Pitcrew youth wrestling team takes on opposing city programs orders of magnitude larger than they are in dual competition, and not only survives, but thrives in some cases. Not to mention, they do pretty well individually, too.

The Pitcrew crowned eight individual champions, and their pre-kindergarten through third grade dual team placed fourth overall at the 2023 North Dakota USA State Folkstyle Youth Wrestling Tournament, held March 24-25 at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex (SHAC) in Fargo.

Winners at the event included Gannon Inglish (10-and-under 59 pounds), Briggs Garber (10U 71B), Landin Clifton (10U 77A), Gabe Inglish (14U 71), Charles Jorgensen (14U 250) and Skye Kramlich (16U 106 freestyle). For the girls, Aleah Wolsky was the winner at 10U 94-101, and Madalina Ciubotareanu took 14U 130-141.
