Rockets compete at Kindred Quadrangular

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets traveled to Kindred on Tuesday, April 18 to compete alongside three other teams in the Kindred Quadrangler.

Although the weather was quite gloomy, the Rockets had an exemplary day.

Starting off with the girls' team, Kelsie Belquist competed in the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles, where she took first place with state-qualifying times in both events.

Belquist also competed in the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay alongside Katie Allmaras, Lucy Meier and Emmie Belquist. The girls took first place in both relays, with a state-qualifying time of 1:49.44 in the 4x200 and a time of 4:22.34 in the 4x400.

NR-S seventh grader, Jaida Schumacher, shocked everyone with a first place finish in the girls' 400-meter dash with a personal record time of 1:09.64. Schumacher also competed in the 200-meter dash, where she placed fourth with a time of 29.94 seconds.

Ava Peterson competed in the girls' javelin event, where she took first place with a throw of 98 feet, 5 inches. Also competing in javelin were Allmaras and Meier, who placed third and fourth, respectively.

Emmie Belquist took second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal record of 50.84 seconds.

The girls' 4x100-meter relay team, made up by Lora Wobbema, Paige Knatterud, Peterson and Schumacher, took third place with a time of 55.94 seconds.

Peterson, Knatterud and Karsyn Wetzel all competed in the 400-meter dash and placed in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Isla Jacobson competed in the 800-meter run and took seventh place with a personal record time of 3:06.84.

Also placing in the top 10 for the girls' team were Addysen Fandrich and Wobbema in shot put and discus. Fandrich took fourth place in discus with a throw of 70 feet and 10th place in shot put with a throw of 24 feet, 6 inches. Wobbema placed fourth in shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 2 inches and sixth in discus with a throw of 68 feet, 7 inches.

Meier, E. Belquist and Allmaras also placed in the top 10 in the 100-meter dash. Meier and E. Belquist took sixth and seventh place, respectively, with a time of 13.74 seconds. Allmaras took ninth place with a time of 13.84 seconds.

The girls' team took third place overall with a total of 56 points.

As for the boys' team, Easton Benz was the top placer. Benz competed in the 400-meter dash and the 100-meter dash, and took third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.94 seconds and 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.24 seconds.

Benz also ran as the anchor in both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay alongside Porter Granger, Bennett Meier and Trevor Waldo. Both relay teams took fourth place overall.

Waldo competed in the 100-meter dash and the boys' high jump. In high jump, Waldo took fourth place with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches. In the 100-meter dash, Waldo took seventh place with a personal record of 12.04 seconds.

Meier took sixth place in high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches and seventh place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.44.

NR-S junior, DJ Mudgett, had an outstanding day in throwing events. Mudgett threw personal records in both shot put and discus, taking sixth place in discus with a throw of 105 feet, 6 inches and 10th in shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 11 inches.

Other top 10 finishes for the boys' team came from Granger and Malaki Kukowski. Granger took eighth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.84 seconds. Kukowski ran a personal record time of 1:03.30 in the 400-meter dash to take sixth place.

The boys' team took fourth place overall with a total of five points.
