Tia Davis is still enduring the fight of her life, and her local community is being invited to lend a hand.
Davis' health took a turn for the worse after giving birth to two adorable twin babies – Jayla and Jeffrey – in October of last year.
After being diagnosed with preeclampsia at her last obstetrics appointment on Oct. 24, 2022, Davis was rushed to Bismarck via ambulance to give birth a week early.
To everyone's great relief, the delivery itself was successful, and Jayla and Jeffrey have remained healthy since, having recently turned 6 months old.
Davis' health, however, was still of concern after giving birth.
Symptoms such as shortness of breath and extreme fatigue saw her readmitted to the hospital, as tests revealed her lungs had filled with fluid and that her kidney function was now critical.
To make matters worse, Davis was eventually diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy, stemming from preeclampsia.
In other words, she was suffering from heart failure.
Many months and numerous hospital stays later, Davis is still fighting hard for the sake of her children, and she may soon be facing her toughest battle yet.
This diagnosis has resulted in numerous long hospital stays. The family will travel in June for comprehensive care at the University of Minnesota. Medical professionals will draft a care plan and prepare for a potential heart transplant.
Davis will also undergo extensive testing at the University of Minnesota, which will determine if she'll need a heart pump surgically implanted until a real heart becomes available.
With such expensive and arduous medical procedures on the horizon, now is the time to help out and show support.
On Wednesday, May 24, a medical benefit for Davis is being held at the Foster County Fairgrounds in Carrington, and all proceeds will be put towards her ongoing medical and transportation needs.
Located at 301 16th Ave S. in Carrington, the benefit will go from 5 - 8 p.m. and will feature a spaghetti supper, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.
Benefit organizers are seeking donations for the silent auction. Those interested in donating an item or simply looking for additional details can contact Tracey Miller at 701-302-0544; Leah Bortz at 1-785-282-4698; Susan Ingebretson at 701-649-0080; or Jana Lesmiester at 701-307-0066.
Those that cannot attend but still wish to contribute, fear not. Donations can be accepted at the Community Credit Union in New Rockford through a Tia Davis benefit account.
There's also a GoFundMe page which has already raised more than $13,000 as of press time. To find the page go to GoFundMe.com and search "Tia Davis."
"Again, just a huge thank you to my family and my friends and coworkers and everybody that has supported anything that has gone on in the last six months," said Davis.
