Richard Allan Aasand, age 86, of McHenry, N.D. died Thursday, May 4, 2023 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Carrington.
Richard's visitation was Monday, May 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Cemetery in McHenry, N.D.
Officiating was Pastor Russ Christiansen. Honorary pallbearers were Richard's grandchildren and their spouses: Kyle (Regan) Aasand and Brittney (Ceph) Dockter and Richard's great-grandson Tilman Dockter.
Richard Allan Aasand was born April 20, 1937 in Detroit Lakes, Minn., the son of Anton and Emma (Opdahl) Aasand. They moved to McHenry, N.D. in 1942. He graduated from McHenry High School in 1956. He married Yvonne Kofoid on June 8, 1958 at First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. They were blessed with two sons, Steven and Dean.
He went to school in Bismarck for TV repair in the mid 60's. Richard owned his own TV repair business most of his life, that he ran out of the back of the grocery store in McHenry and then it later moved to the old lumber yard when the grocery store closed. For his business he would repair TVs, sell TVs, and even install large satellite dishes. Richard farmed outside of McHenry, raising mainly wheat and soybeans. He did have a short stint with cattle for a couple years in the early sixties, but decided it was not for him. Richard was a member of the McHenry City Council, McHenry Fire Department, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McHenry, N.D.
Richard and Yvonne were avid antique collectors. They spent many days on the road traveling to many auctions and antique sales across North Dakota. He loved to collect furniture and glassware.
Richard is survived by a son, Dean (Deedra) Aasand of Carrington; grandchildren, Kyle (Regan) Aasand, Halstad, Minn., and Brittney (Ceph) Dockter, Streeter, N.D.; great-grandson, Tilman Dockter, Streeter, N.D.; sister Marilyn Saint, Carrington, N.D.; sister-in-law Jan (Mike) McNally, Lisbon, N.D., along with many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Yvonne Aasand; son Steven Aasand; parents Anton and Emma Aasand; brothers Arnold, Palmer, and Charles Aasand; and sister Anna Aasand.
