Mudgett, Wobbema excel at recent meets

The New Rockford-Sheyenne track and field team has been running to and from track meets this past week.

On Thursday, May 4, the Rockets traveled to Rugby to compete in the annual Hanneman Memorial Meet.

Both the boys' and girls' teams placed 11th overall at the meet.

Top 10 placings for the girls' team came from Lucy Meier, Katie Allmaras and Lora Wobbema.

Meier took sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.59; eighth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.49 seconds; and 10th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.65 seconds.

Allmaras also competed in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, taking fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.00 seconds and 10th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.53.

Wobbema threw a total of 85 feet, 10 inches in the girls' discus event to land in eighth place overall.

As for the boys, Porter Granger and DJ Mudgett each brought home a fifth place finish. Mudgett took fifth place in shot put with a throw of 42-11 and Granger took fifth place in long jump with a jump of 19-7.5.

On Saturday, May 6, six Rocket athletes competed at the Carrington Kiwanis/Lions Meet.

Wobbema excelled in discus with more than 10 additional feet to set her personal record with a throw of 96-10 to take fourth place overall. Isla Jacobson also set a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:56.52, earning an eighth place finish.

The girls' team took ninth place overall.

Mudgett led the boys' team with a first-place finish in discus with a throw of 125-10. Mudgett also took third place in shot put with a throw of 43-2.

NR-S eighth grader, Malaki Kukowski competed in the boys' long jump and 100-meter dash. Kukowski took second in long jump with a jump of 17-9 and ninth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.18 seconds.

Overall, the boys' team took eighth place.
