Schumacher at state golf

After qualifying for state golf with a brilliant outing in Carrington earlier this season, Jackson Schumacher traveled to Wahpeton, N.D. to compete alongside the best high school golfers in North Dakota.

Schumacher is the first NR-S golfer to attend State Golf since Benjamin Schaefer did so in 2019, and Schumacher earned himself a respectable result.

This year's Class B State Golf Meet took place at the Bois de Sioux Golf Course in Wahpeton.

It was a two-day event, beginning on Tuesday, June 6 and ending in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 7.

The groupings for the first day were based off of season scoring averages.

For the second day, Schumacher was placed with similar scoring golfers based on results from day one. The placements were determined by combining scores from both days to create a combined, overall score.

On the first day of the event, Schumacher shot an 87, and in the process earned a birdie on hole 4 and made par on holes 6, 7, 10, 11, 12 and 16.

Par for the Bois de Sioux Golf Course was 71 at the state meet.

Schumacher finished day two of the event with a score of 90, bringing his overall score from both days to a respectable 177.

Of 132 golfers at the state event, Schumacher's score placed him 54th overall.

Schumacher was likely hoping for better, but having already qualified for State Golf as a freshman, there's little doubt he'll have more opportunities in the coming years.

Prior to Schumacher's attendance at State Golf, NR-S had taken on two final meets to close out their regular season.

On Wednesday, May 24, Schumacher, Kage Walford and Jacob Louters traveled to the Cottonwood Golf Club in Casselton.

Out of 45 golfers, they took 24th, 25th and 27th places, respectively.

On Wednesday, May 31, NR-S returned to the CrossRoads Golf Club in Carrington for the Region 2 team qualifier. However, the Rockets were one golfer short of the four needed to qualify as a team.

Individually, Jackson Schumacher scored a 78 to finish in 13th place out of 57 golfers. Kage Walford and Luke Yri, meanwhile, finished in 34th place and 47th place, respectively.
