Freedom 5K

Kick off the Independence Day weekend with the Freedom 5K in downtown New Rockford!

The longtime New Rockford tradition continues, and with a new route this year it's better than ever!

On Saturday, July 1, runners will begin the 5K on Central Avenue in front of the New Rockford Transcript office, before making their way through Archie and Jesse Campbell Memorial Park, Centennial Park, and ultimately back at the Transcript office.

The Freedom 5K's planners believe this route will work much better for mothers wanting to participate while pushing their kids in strollers, as it avoids the gravel on River Drive.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Transcript office, 817 Central Avenue in New Rockford, and the race will get underway at 8 a.m.

Early bird registration is $25 for adults, and $20 for youth 12 and under through Monday, June 19.

Registration increases to $35 for adults and $30 for youth as of June 20, and full price registration will be available on the day of the event.

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 overall adults as well as the fastest girl and boy under 12!

All registrants will receive a flag pin courtesy of the Eddy County Veteran Service Officer, Julie Shrock. A t-shirt is also guaranteed for all who register on or before June 19, and while supplies last for registrations entered June 20 or after.

Those interested can also download a paper registration form to fill out and drop off with payment at the Transcript office by going to https://www.newrockfordtranscript.com/home/cms_data/dfault/pdfs/misc/2023-06-05.pdf
