4th of July 2023 festivities

Independence Day is almost upon us, and the celebration will last all weekend long through Tuesday in New Rockford and Sheyenne!

The festivities get underway with the Freedom 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 1. Registration opens at 7 a.m. with the race starting at 8 a.m. outside the Transcript office.

Other Saturday events include the Big Cup Golf Tournament, Autocross on Dirt, and a street dance outside Buck-It's Bar featuring "The Kissing Company."

Sunday's events kick off with the Sheyenne Stampede at Hendrickson Park just west of Sheyenne, and don't forget to cheer on your duck at the Lion's Lucky Duck Race at the New Rockford Swimming Pool.

There will also be another street dance Sunday night outside the New Rockford Eagles Club, featuring "32 Below."

On Tuesday, July 4, the New Rockford and Sheyenne parades will begin at their usual times of 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively. The annual BBQ meals at the Eagles Club in New Rockford and Ostby Hall in Sheyenne will follow.

Parade entries are welcome for both parades. To get on the list for New Rockford, call Bakers Dozen (701-947-2359). To enter the Sheyenne parade call Warren Implement. (701-996-2121).

Swimming pool games will take place throughout Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, and of course, a beautiful fireworks display will light up the sky that night.
