The Eddy County Soil Conservation District is proud to recognize the Price farm as its 2023 Achievement winner.
Chans Price, a lineman for Otter Tail Power Company, and his wife Mary Kay, a nurse at CHI, along with the help of their three kids, Brianna, Caden and Preston, have been actively planting trees and shrubs on any of their non-crop areas of the property since taking ownership. Chans' brother-in-law, Mark Lange, farms a soybean/wheat rotation on the tillable acreage and hays the available acreage for his cattle operation. Chans has planted a large variety of 50-500 trees every year since 2004. "Although it takes time, it is extremely rewarding to see the cosmetic outcome and a place for birds and wildlife to flourish on what would be a nonproductive acreage," says Price. "Plant a tree today for someone to enjoy tomorrow!"
The North Dakota Soil Conservation Achievement Awards Program has been recognizing individuals who have made outstanding efforts to conserve valuable natural resources on their land since 1948. It is a statewide program with each of the state's Soil Conservation Districts participating. Each year the district selects an individual or family who has demonstrated his/their ability to apply conservation practices to the land they own. Once selected, they receive a large full color aerial photograph of their farm and a trip to the annual meeting where they are honored for their accomplishments.
