Babe Ruth wins two more

The New Rockford Black Sox have now won four of their last five games in Babe Ruth baseball.

After their previous two-game win streak was snapped by a loss in Cando, the Sox returned home on Thursday, July 6 to host Hatton-Northwood.

The game began as an offensive slug fest, with each team scoring three runs in the first inning. In the second, however, it was H-N that took a two-run lead.

An inning and a half later the score became even more lopsided, at 6-3 in Hatton-Northwood's favor – and that's when New Rockford's fortunes turned around.

Easton Simon knocked an RBI single into right field in the third, and Jax Demester managed to score in the bottom of the fourth with some excellent base running.

In the fifth inning, Dashyl Bichler and Vinnie Ruppell each earned RBI singles to give the Black Sox their first lead of the game. Two insurance runs scored in the sixth courtesy of bases-loaded walks, bringing the score to 9-6.

Meanwhile, Skye Kramlich and Thomas Allmaras were keeping the opposing lineup from responding, securing a hard-fought comeback win for the Black Sox.

The following day, the Sox rode their momentum into a game against the Carrington Cardinals, and again they'd have to mount a comeback.

After taking an early 2-run lead in the first inning, the Black Sox committed a costly defensive error in the top of the third that allowed Carrington to get back in front 3-2.

The Black Sox quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, however, having capitalized on an error and wild pitch committed by Carrington.

The Sox would only go on to add to their lead from there, and ended the game with a 10-4 victory over the Cardinals.

Offensive standouts were Skye Kramlich, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Alex Weisenburger, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored.

The wins evened up the Black Sox' overall record at 6-6, and on the schedule next was The Red River Valley Babe Ruth Tournament in Hillsboro July 12-16.

The Black Sox entered the tournament as the #3 seed and took on #6 Hatton-Northwood Wednesday in the opening round. See next week's edition of the Transcript for tournament coverage.
