Cudworth does it all

Post 30 win 3 of their last 4 with victory over Kidder County

The New Rockford Post 30 Black Sox have now won three of their last four courtesy of another pitching gem from Keaton Cudworth.

Playing in Steele, N.D. against Kidder County on Monday, July 10, the Black Sox were looking to recover after being no-hit by Hudson Schmitz in Carrington on July 5.

Thankfully for them, Cudworth was starting on the mound.

Through seven innings of work he kept the Kidder County lineup from scoring a single run and allowed just two hits while striking out eight batters. It was just the latest gem for Cudworth and it was absolutely necessary for Post 30.

The Sox' lineup was doing little to take advantage of Cudworth's domination on the mound.

Through five innings neither team had managed to score a run, and the Sox were in danger of wasting a Cudworth gem – and it wouldn't have been the first time.

So, Cudworth himself took matters into his own hands. With a single to right field he got the ball rolling in the top of the 6th inning, and Luke Yri kept it rolling as he reached on a walk.

That set the stage for Alex Weisenburger to fill the bases thanks to a defensive error, and Easton Simon took advantage, ripping a single into center field and sending Cudworth across home plate.

Skye Kramlich added insurance with an RBI double to score Weisenburger, and the Sox suddenly had a 2-run lead – a comfortable advantage when your starting pitcher is pitching as well as Cudworth was.

Sure enough, Kidder County failed to respond in the next frame, and in the top of the seventh Cudworth again got things going.

After Thomas Allmaras reached on an error, Cudworth launched a line drive to right field and made it to third base for an RBI triple.

A productive groundout from Yri then allowed Cudworth to cross home plate, bringing the score to 4-0 for Post 30.

Kidder County was unable to mount a comeback in the final frame, and the Black Sox took home the victory.

Sox vs. Carrington

It wasn't a clean score-sheet, but Carrington's Hudson Schmitz most likely didn't care.

His pitching masterpiece still went into the books as a no-hitter, and he even helped himself out with a two-run home run to provide all the offensive support he would need in Post 25's three-run victory, 4-1, on Wednesday, July 5, at Carrington's City Park.

And in the process, it represented 14 straight innings of the Black Sox offense unable to reach base via a hit against the Redbirds. The latest game between the teams was the second no-hit outing Carrington has pitched against Post 30 this year, as Lucas Hendrickson turned the trick against the 'Sox in the season opener on June 8.

Schmitz, along with Grady Shipman, each went 1-for-2 at the plate. Owen Hagel also accounted for a double for Carrington.

Post 30 left-hander Keaton Cudworth provided a quality start on the mound in defeat. He would record eight strikeouts and just those three hits, though three walks and two hits by pitch would complicate his efforts.

The Black Sox got on the board in the sixth inning with a Post 25 defensive lapse and two errant deliveries by Schmitz allowing Brody Weisenburger to score.

Following the win in Steele and loss to Carrington, the Black Sox' overall record is 3-4. Post 30's next games will take place in Steele at the Class B District 4 tournament on July 17-19.
