Dozens of NR-S students came to the NR-S Back to School Night ready to race.
Pinewood derby kits were handed out on the last day of school in May, and kids had all summer to build the fastest car.
At the Back to School event on Tuesday, Aug. 15 in All Veterans Memorial Park, youth went head-to-head in heats of three cars to see who would emerge victorious in the inaugural derby.
The event also offered ice cream, free swimming and opportunities to connect with NR-S staff ahead of the new school year.
The first official day of school is Thursday, Aug. 24.
