Obituary: Todd Buehler

Todd Buehler, Oberon N.D.

Todd Jay Buehler, 65, of Oberon, N.D. passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at his home, under the care of hospice and his loving family.

Todd Jay Buehler was born November 2, 1957 to Lewis and Ruth (Saewert) Buehler in New Rockford, N.D.  He attended school in Oberon until the 10th  grade and graduated from Sheyenne High School with the class of 1976, where he was active in basketball, cross country running and baseball in the summer months. Todd furthered his education at North Dakota State University, in Fargo, N.D., for three quarters. At NDSU, he joined the Theta Chi Fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. He moved back home to run the farming operations after his father, Lewis, passed away.

Todd was united in marriage to Nadley Dempsey on June 21, 1986 in Oberon. Together the couple raised four children, Elisa, Beau, Breana and Hunter.

Todd's greatest joys in life were his family, friends, and the rewards and challenges of running his family farm. Todd was a lifetime member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon. He was a past member of the Calvary Lutheran Church Board, a past director on the Sheyenne/Oberon Elevator Board and a past member of the Benson County Bison Producers from 1994-2009. Todd enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping trips to Graham's Island with his family, snow skiing, water skiing, NDSU Bison football and attending his children's events (football, track, volleyball, basketball, baseball, FFA and music programs).

Because of the challenges associated with having ALS, Todd's faith strengthened. He felt it important to reach out to others facing difficult circumstances and offer his support and encouragement. Todd will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Todd is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nadley; children and grandchildren, Elisa, Joe and Annley Wentz (Bismarck); Beau, Bria, Brittin and Brooks Buehler (Oberon); Breana, Michael and Adelye Pacheco (Watford City); Hunter, Grace and Hendrick Buehler (Oberon); a sister Debra (Joel) Hjelseth (Chattanooga, Tenn.), and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ruth Buehler; paternal grandparents, Edmund and Fanny Buehler; maternal grandparents, Albert and Lydia Saewert; infant sister, Valerie Ruth; brother-in-law, Kent Pranke; nephew, Andrew Pranke; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon with Pastor Jeff Halvorson officiating. Burial followed the Memorial Service at the Hillside Cemetery in Oberon.

Visitation took place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, N.D.
