Sheyenne GRIT held a board meeting October 14 at the Senior Center and via Zoom. Board members Patti Larson, Darci Joseph, Laurie Westby, Tara Hanson and Joanna Larson conducted business related to the nearly complete renovation of the home at 337 Sheyenne Avenue. After the meeting, board members took a group photo as part of the dedication of a newly-planted maple tree in the yard. The tree is a memorial to the past active community members that once called the house home: Linnea and Briden Stanton, Janice Ploium and Kathy Magnan. New Sheyenne GRIT notecards featuring the original watercolor artwork of local artist Mary Estrem were unveiled. A community GRIT meeting and open house of the property will be held in early November. For Sheyenne GRIT updates, community events, and volunteer opportunities, follow @sheyennend on Instagram.
In other business, Tara shared that the community-owned Open Season Lodge will host a Halloween costume party open to the public on October 29 from 1-4 p.m. Admission will be $3 with games, tricks and treats. Patti noted that this coincides with Sheyenne’s First Lutheran Church fall dinner and bake sale at Ostby Hall. The Lodge is also making preliminary plans for a holiday vendor show.
Volunteers have spruced up Sheyenne’s Centennial Park, located between Linda’s This and That Shop and Rindy’s Sheyenne Bar. Charlotte Franks-Erickson donated a new commemorative sign. On September 29, Peter Larson and Franks-Erickson installed the new aluminum sign that features the 1989 N.D. Centennial Seal. The new sign replaces the weather-worn wood one that was originally hand painted by Connie Brown. Lynn and Kevin Erickson reattached the white picket fence that was temporarily taken down during the Highway 281 and sidewalk construction. Sandy Hanson’s family led efforts this summer to prune hedges and fill dirt in the park.
Saturday, Jan Loe and Steph were in Minnewaukan where they visited Brian and Pam Hill. While there, they watched the UND vs. NDSU football game.
Monday, Patti Clifton and Jan Loe were in Devils Lake. They had lunch and did some shopping.
