After a tough loss to the Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich Cardinals on Tuesday, October 17, the Rockets were back in action on Monday, October 23 in their home gym. The Rockets hosted the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans and held them to a five-set thriller.
In the first set of the night, the Lady Titans started off with the lead 3-1, which ended shortly after errors started. But with only two points scored for the Rockets, the ball ended back into the hands of the Lady Titans. And that was the name of the game for this first set, until eventually the Rockets were able to take a healthy lead to secure a 25-16 win.
Set two and three, however, went in favor of the Lady Titans with the final score of each being 25-23.
The Rockets came back to life in the fourth set – well, after the first half of it that is. Like the first set, the Rockets and Lady Titans went back and forth in the beginning. But once the Rockets secured a seven point lead, they didn't allow the Titans to get ahead of them. The Rockets took set four 25-19.
The fifth and final set, you guessed it, went just like the first four. But the Rockets came out on top with a 15- 12 win.
Kelsie Belquist led the Rockets in kills and digs with a total of 22 kills and 34 digs. Ava Peterson was the other top hitter for the Rockets, earning a total of 14. As for digs, Lucy Meier, Kaiya O'Connor, Logan Cudworth and Peterson all hit double digits, scoring 19, 13, 12 and 11, respectively.
Top blockers were K. Belquist, Peterson and Lora Wobbema, each with four.
The Rockets' junior high teams both came away victorious over the Lady Titans, with the b-squad and c-squad teams coming up short.
On Tuesday, October 24, the Rockets made the trek to Petersburg to take on Super Region 4 competitors, the Nelson County Chargers.
Unlike Monday night's game, the Rockets were ready to take down the Chargers in three. With another rotation change, the Rockets did just that.
The Rockets shut down the Chargers in the first set, taking a 17-point win. Sets two and three were quite similar to the first, but with less of a lead. The Rockets took down the Chargers 25-15 in the second set and 25-13 in the third.
K. Belquist led the Rockets in both kills and digs, with a total of 15 kills and 13 digs.
Also taking home a win was the eighth grade team, with final scores of 25-16, 19-25, 15-9.
As of press time, the Rockets were set to take on Region 4 competitor, the Four Winds/Minnewaukan Lady Indians, in Minnewaukan on Friday, October 27.
The Rockets will host the Grafton Spoilers (A,B,C) in their final regular season game on Tuesday, October 31 starting at 4:30 p.m. Before the start of the varsity game, the three seniors will be recognized. Come out and support your team in their home gym one last time before region play begins!
Both of these games will be covered in the November 6 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
